CLEARANCE:
- A medical examination is required prior to surgery.
- You must see your PCP or cardiologist within 30 days of your procedure.
- The clearance from your PCP must be received 5 days prior to surgery to avoid rescheduling.
- We encourage you to ask your PCP for a copy.
SURGERY TIME:
- A nurse will call you approximately 1 week prior to your surgery date with your arrival time.
- Please do NOT use Patient Gateway for your arrival time. Patient Gateway only reflects times for your appointments at your ophthalmologist’s office. It does NOT reflect your surgery time.
- You may receive an automated call from OCB with the time of your postoperative appointment in the clinic office.
FOOD AND DRINK:
GUIDELINES MUST BE FOLLOWED TO AVOID BEING CANCELLED DAY OF SURGERY.
- If your arrival time is prior to 12pm, nothing to eat after midnight.
- If your arrival time is after 12pm, you may have dry toast or an English muffin with jam or jelly ONLY, 6 hours prior to your arrival time.
- All patients may have up to 8oz of clear liquids 2 hours prior to your arrival time. This includes only the following: water, ginger ale, apple juice, black coffee or black tea. NO dairy products.
MEDICATIONS:
- You may take medications in the morning with a sip of water.
- Bring a list of all medications.
APPLIES TO DIABETICS ONLY:
- If your arrival time is prior to 12pm, do NOT take your diabetic medication.
- If your arrival time is after 12pm, please speak to a nurse regarding your special instructions
EYE DROPS:
- Your Ophthalmologist may have prescribed eye drops to be used prior to surgery. Please take as prescribed.
YOU MUST CALL THE CENTER or OPHTHALMOLOGIST OFFICE PRIOR TO THE DAY OF SURGERY IF:
- You develop flu/cold like symptoms (fever, congestion, cough)
- Develop a sty/cyst in the eye being operated on
- Your health has changed since the last time you had a physical. This includes any overnight stay in the hospital, surgery of any kind, heart attack or cardiac catheterization
